Dos and Don’ts of Choosing Ceiling Colors

Just like interior home surfaces, painted ceilings go the extra mile to make an interior surface look finished. If you desire to alter the color in a room, you would have to change the color of the ceiling as well. Highlighted below are some tips for ensuring you get the ceilings painted right:

Dos and Don’ts of Choosing Ceiling Colors
DO; paint your bathroom ceiling the same color as the walls. If tiles in your bathroom stretch up to the ceiling, you will lose the color towards that end of the bathroom, as it tiles all through. Just proceed into the ceiling with a particular wall color and it would tie that bathroom side with the color.

DO NOT; paint any other color on heavily stippled ceilings but white or cream.  There are some exceptions to this like high vaulted ceilings that would draw the eye to the ceiling, which is not desired for such heavy texture. Presently, everyone wants his or her ceilings flat and devoid of texture.

DO cut the color by half strength for the ceiling if you anticipate it to be a similar color shade as the walls unless it is a darker or very pale color. The same color on the ceiling has to be darker; therefore, if you want your ceiling to appear relatively the same as the walls, ask for a half strength paint color for your walls.

DON’T specify a half-strength of wall shades that already have too much pink on it, using a lighter color tone of the same tone may result in a lighter shade ceiling, one that you least expected.

DO; personally, select the color for your ceiling in case you are starting with a darker color that is, dramatic. There is no sufficient paint in a deep-based paint container; therefore, it is not possible to specify half-strength paint as you will not have sufficient paint in the container to get the desired color for your ceiling.

DO NOT ask for a quarter-strength paint for the ceilings. It is needless to go color shades lighter than half-strength, with too much room for the shades to go off towards the other direction. If you desire a lighter color shade, it is safer to select the color by yourself.

DO; painting the ceiling with a pale blue color would give your room the look and feel of a clear blue sky. Additionally, this would help illuminate natural light in the entire room.

DO NOT paint the ceiling white if it is abundantly present on the walls. It would look fabulous when all the colors in the room relate with the ceiling. Doing this is the best way of blending and making the room seem lively and fresh. Painting white on the ceiling is only ideal if the walls have little or no touch of white.

Consider applying the same color hue on your ceiling as your walls. A color that surrounds you would create a richer ambiance. The same goes for the bedroom where you would end up with the ceiling that complements the mood.
